Al Tarver's (Aug 6) Retirement Gathering and Gift

Spende geschützt
On June 11th, 2022, Music teacher Al Tarver retired from Crenshaw High School after almost 30 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Crenshaw Students and the Community. Once the word got out about Tarver's retirement, the Alumni would not miss an opportunity to show their appreciation and gratitude for what he has done for many people.

We ask that you please consider donating so we can send Tarver into his retirement in the right way. Tarver has never been out of the country and has shared that he would like to go to Brazil or the Bahamas one day. The Alumni want to oblige him and send him on his dream trip.

****Calling all Band Members, Flags, and Dancers from 93-22. Seriously consider donating since Tarver has likely impacted our lives (typically by giving us lifelong memories and friends), and consider coming to hang out with friends at the retirement party (details below).

Quick Bio For Your Reference

Mr. Al Tarver (Commonly referred to as "Tarver" by his students) touched down in California in 1984, looking to pursue a career in music. He played his Trombone at local gigs, worked with a program called "Music on the move," and taught math at Duke Ellington High School (Continuation School on Washington's Campus) until he found his calling.

In 1993, a lady named Ms. Nobles, the Principal of Crenshaw High School, approached Tarver and asked him to be the Band Director on several occasions. He was initially hesitant but finally accepted. He received a tour of his new Band Room, which appeared abandoned and locked up for years. The road to success seemed foggy with busted equipment, no uniforms, and no money for the program. However, Tarver was undeterred and got to work. Determined to get going immediately, Tarver started his recruitment efforts, including an overhead announcement, and quickly got about 60 kids interested in joining the Band. Tarver had a goal to put on the Band's first show by homecoming. To the surprise of most, the Band succeeded in meeting their goal by playing "End of the Road" by Boys II Men and "Whoomp there it is" by Tag Team.

The following years were also successful as the Band became increasingly popular and famous. People would point out Crenshaw to their Kids in parades while thanking the band members for what they brought to the community. In addition, celebrities would seek out Crenshaw to use the Band in their shows and Performances, and Commercials would often use Crenshaw's Band, recognizing it as the best in the area.

Tarver is a quiet man that doesn't care to show off and brag about his accomplishments. Instead, he gives all glory to God. Tarver has been a role model to many and even a father figure to some. Because of Tarver's selflessness, there is an overwhelming demand to celebrate Tarver and thank him for the long-lasting friendships he has created and the overall impact on his students' lives.

Tarver and his family plan to remain somewhat local in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area. He plans to continue practicing his music and Kung fu while maybe picking up some other hobbies in the meantime.

To celebrate his retirement, we will have a retirement party for Tarver on August 6th, 2022, from 12-6 pm at Little Lake Park in Norwalk. Please plan to make it to show Tarver your appreciation of him and hopefully catch up and hang out with old friends and classmates.
