Melinda "Mindy" Daniels is a 47 y/o young woman that is currently in need of some financial help from the community that she loves so much. Mindy is a lifelong resident of Versailles & graduated High School from MCR-2 in 1990. She has 4 sons - Weston (28), Wylder (23), Lane (15), & Logan (13). Lane & Logan still live at home. Wylder was in college in Springfield until he was needed to help care for his mother & moved back home last fall. Mindy was working as a public health nurse at the Morgan County Health Center until her illness struck in August 2019 & prevented her from being able to work. After enduring many tests, hospitalizations, & bone marrow biopsies, she was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia in September 2019. Since then, weekly trips (sometimes more often) to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for doctor appts, chemotherapy, & transfusions of red blood cells & platelets were necessary to keep her alive until a bone marrow donor could be found and she could receive a bone marrow transplant. Recently, a matched donor was found & Mindy received her transplant on July 2, 2020. She must remain in the hospital's transplant unit for an undetermined, but lengthy amount of time to recover, receive anti-rejection medications, & keep her pain under control as recovery from a bone marrow transplant is very painful. Mindy's leave time at work that she had accumulated, along with the 12 weeks of FMLA, ended just 3 weeks before her transplant was scheduled to happen which left her with no other option other than to personally pay for her health insurance thru the COBRA option from the Health Center which is very expensive. Mindy has been using her savings & retirement funds to keep her family afloat since last fall, but with having to pay an expensive insurance premium on top of all other bills, it just isn't sustainable. Through the years she has always tried to give to others in need and now she finds herself being the one in need. Let me assure you, that it is not easy at all for her to ask friends and family for money. Please donate whatever you feel you can to her & her sons without compromising your own financial well being and family's needs. Thank you for your donation & for your continued prayers for Mindy & her sons. She would also like to ask you to donate blood - if you are able. Generous blood, platelet, & bone marrow donations are what has helped keep her alive. Mindy is a strong woman & she is fighting this battle with a strong faith in God & with lots of motivation to get better! Love to you all and praying God's blessings for each one. ❤.
