A mamãe e o papai estarão aqui.*❤️
I JUST WANTED TO FIND OUT WHY MY LITTLE BOY’S TUMMY WOULDN’T STOP SWELLING… I never imagined that a simple ultrasound would change our lives forever. For more than a month, we lived through an anguish that only those who have experienced something similar can truly understand. There were repeated trips to Waterford Hospital, tests, medications, sleepless nights filled with worry, and one question that never left my mind: Why wasn’t my son getting better? It all began on September 10th, when we first took Gael to the hospital. His blood tests were normal, but he was diagnosed with giardiasis. We followed all the medical advice and completed the prescribed seven-day course of medication. But time passed, and nothing changed. His little tummy was still swollen, and that was my biggest concern. We went back to the hospital. Then we went back again. On one of those visits, we spent 48 hours under observation, undergoing various tests. And once again, we were discharged without an answer to the question that was worrying us so much. Since Gael had been diagnosed with CMPA (cow’s milk protein allergy) when he was born, we began to wonder whether that might be the problem. Although he had not shown any signs of an allergy since his first year of life, we switched him back to the milk he used to drink at that time and removed all foods containing milk from his diet. I just wanted my little boy to get better. I wanted to see him well again, full of energy and happiness, with his little tummy back to normal. But he wasn’t getting better. The days went by, his abdomen became increasingly swollen, and Gael was growing weaker and more tired. I watched my little boy getting worse, and I still couldn’t understand what was happening to him. I contacted a GP and asked for a referral for an ultrasound. The referral was made, but we had to wait for a phone call to schedule the appointment. And I waited. But the call never came. Until, on October 7th, I made a decision: I would go to Dublin in search of the answers I had been desperately looking for. If we couldn’t get answers here, we were already looking at flights to take Gael to Brazil so we could investigate what was happening. I needed to find out what was wrong with my son. I simply couldn’t wait any longer. When we arrived in Dublin, I went to see a GP. The doctor examined Gael, and I noticed the look of concern on her face. She performed an ultrasound right there and immediately wrote a letter referring us to the hospital. At the emergency department, Gael had an X-ray and, finally, the ultrasound I had been asking for from the very beginning. That was the moment our world stood still. The scan raised concerns about possible lymphoma and leukaemia. Shortly afterwards, we were referred for a CT scan. We spent the night in the hospital, and the following day, October 8th, Gael was transferred to Crumlin Hospital. As soon as we arrived, Gael was taken straight to the ICU. Just a few hours later, preparations were already underway for a biopsy. And then came the confirmation from the oncologist: stage 4 cancer. There is no way to prepare yourself to hear something like that about your child. There are no words to describe the fear, pain, and desperation that overwhelm a mother’s heart when she discovers that her little one is facing such a huge battle. In just a few days, our lives changed completely. On Monday, October 12th, Gael began chemotherapy. On Friday, October 16th, he had his second session. The road ahead will be long. We know there will be difficult days, challenges, and moments when we will have to find strength even when we feel we have none left. But amidst all the tears, we received the news that is keeping us going: THERE IS TREATMENT, AND THE DISEASE IS CURABLE. ❤️ And it is this hope that we are holding on to. Today, we don’t want to spend our time thinking about what could have been different or everything that happened before we finally received a diagnosis. Our focus now is on caring for our little boy, giving him all the love, affection, and security he needs, and standing by his side through every stage of this treatment. Gael needs us. And we will be here. Through every chemotherapy session. Through every test. Through every difficult night. Through every tear and every little victory. Because, before anything else, we are his parents. And if there is one thing we will do every single day, it is fight alongside him with all the love in our hearts. My son, you are still so little to be facing such a huge battle. If I could, I would take all your pain away and carry it myself. But since I can’t, I promise to hold your hand through every step of this journey. You will never be alone. ❤️ Our story has entered a chapter we never wished we would have to write, but it is not over yet. And we believe there are many more chapters ahead of us, filled with health, happiness, and beautiful moments. Today, we are taking things one day at a time. Yes, we are afraid. Yes, our hearts are heavy. But above all, we are moving forward with faith, hope, and love. For you, Gael. Today, tomorrow, and always. Mummy and Daddy will be here for you. ❤️ We have set up this fundraiser to help cover our family’s day-to-day expenses. Right now, we are spending our time at the hospital caring for Gael, which means we are unable to work. Any help, no matter how small, will mean the world to us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, kindness, and love during this incredibly difficult time. ❤️
