Tim’s service was a fitting tribute to a man who will remain in our memories forever. May we continue his bouncy, joyful, generous, and loving way of life.

The outpouring of contributions far exceeded our expectations. As such, we will be sunsetting this Gofundme site. It was a pleasure seeing this program connect so many people from across Tim’s life.

Timothy J. Merhar tragically and unexpectedly flew his final flight on September 4th, 2025. His passion for aviation was only surpassed by his love for his family. He was a proud husband and father, leaving behind his incredible wife Toni and their two amazing children, August (10) and Margaret (8). Tim and Toni are both Air Force pilots with rising careers who excelled at finding the delicate balance between selfless service and the tender demands of parenthood. Tim was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves, heavily involved in the Civil Air Patrol as a CAP-USAF Liaison Officer and trailblazing flight instructor in the Rocky Mountain and North Central Regions. Outside of the military, Tim was a First Officer at Southwest Airlines and shared his love of flying with countless passengers and coworkers. Among his many interests, he enjoyed various outdoor activities with his family and friends, including skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and hockey. His bright personality and genuine interest in people made him a fast friend, and within minutes of meeting him, you felt like you had known him for years. He is missed dearly by all those who have ever crossed paths with him.

This GoFundMe was established to help care for Tim’s family in the planning of his service and memorial.
