Aid Ezra's Healing After Dog Attack
Donación protegida
My son, Ezra (2), was bit by a dog on Sunday, September 2nd. He was at his dad’s house for his weekend visitation when the incident occurred. From what I was told, Ezra was upstairs, alone, with the dog while his dad was downstairs playing video games with our other children. We don’t know what happened to cause the dog to bite, but unfortunately, she did. She is an Akita and known for not liking younger children, however she has never before shown aggression towards him. Once we got to Cardinal Glennon, what we thought would be a few stitches turned into hand reconstructive surgery as the dog bite happened to make it all the way to the bone. Ezra was a trooper while various specialists and plastic surgeons examined his hand and determined what all needed to be completed. Ultimately he ended up being put to sleep for surgery with a hand specialist and plastic surgeon each doing their various parts. Ezra will go back to the doctor in 10 days to determine whether additional surgery is going to be needed and what range of motion he will have following the operation. Ezra is currently also battling an autoimmune issue causing ongoing rashes and hives and his doctors bills have become too much to handle. Please help share his story as any little bit helps at this point.
Updated 9/9/2024- Ezra is doing well! Friday he had a doctor appointment just to examine the stitches and healing. The doctor praised how well the stitches are holding up but was concerned about the top of his hand where a canine tooth broke skin as that spot seems to be infected. This weekend showed some progress with hand movement. We caught him wiggling the tips of his fingers to grip a cup to drink. We weren’t concerned about the integrity of fingers, other than his thumb, but it would good to see he wasn’t in pain and able to start moving them. We go on the 17th to the plastic surgeon to figure out next steps! Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, prayed or even just checked-in on him. We are so appreciative of you!

Updated 9/26/2024- Ezra is doing GREAT! Stitches are out and (pending if he develops a keloid on that scar since I also make keloids), he should be done with surgeries! If the scar does keloid, he will unfortunately need an additional surgery as, due to the scar placement, that will affect his range of motion with his thumb. We are looking up, but so are his medical bills Thank you so much to everyone who has/continues to ask about and pray for Ezra. I couldn’t be more thankful for all of the people supporting him
