Against the Odds Half Marathon

Hi all, In just under 3 weeks I will be running my first ever half marathon on Sunday 14th July. I have decided to use the event to raise both money and awareness in support of the dangers of addiction across males and females.

Addiction, whether it be alcohol, drugs, gambling or any other, can have devastating consequences on not just your own life but those around you including, family, friends and loved ones. I guarantee those reading this page can either relate or will know someone who has experienced some kind of problem with the above mentioned.

I have faced my own challenges over the years, having grown up in an era where it is virtually impossible to go a day without seeing gambling advertisements or paid partnership, I like many others was not aware of the dangers of problem gambling.

’Against the odds’ are a Social Enterprise created upon lived experience of gambling harm. They run bespoke programmes across the Sport, Education & Corporate sectors, working with the likes of Barnsley FC, Sheffield Wednesday FC, Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa, Loughborough University & NFL Academy to name a few.

Against the Odds raise awareness of gambling related harm throughout 16–24-year-olds. An age group that I think is key to target to demonstrate the potential dangers that come when transitioning into a young adult.

They have a podcast (Against the Podds) and will officially launch their private recovery services in the coming months (supporting individuals with their recovery across wider addiction).

Having worked with Conor at ATO myself, I have discovered new pathways to recovery and been able to manage problem gambling. Working with Conor has allowed me to find peace with my past and uncover new tools to implement in everyday life which has continually allowed me to move forward and grow as a person I am hoping that sharing my story will encourage others.

The money raised for my half marathon will go towards their Awareness Club supporting various initiatives to educate young people on the gambling industry & further risk of addiction.
