The Open Arms Sponsor Circle was started to help with the critical and immediate need to help resettle Afghan refugees that came to the United States in recent months. Our group has come together as part of a government-sponsored program to help place the tens of thousands of refugees who are currently living on military bases across the U.S. As part of this program, Sponsor Circles are required to raise $2,275 per person. We are hoping to resettle a family of six, so we set our goal at $13,650; however, we are eager to support a family of any size based on the funds we are able to collect. We may be able to support multiple families depending on the need and the funds raised. We will be working in partnership with REACT DC, which is a nonprofit Sponsor Circle Umbrella resettlement agency.

We have reached the 60% threshold required to apply and become certified. We are now waiting to be matched with a family and begin the resettlement process.

 

100% of the funds collected (excluding GoFundMe fees) will be used directly to support the newcomers who will become part of our community. This financial support includes housing, food, clothes, basic necessities, legal assistance, transportation for at least ninety days, and other resources as needed. A bank account in-trust will be set up to transfer to the family once they are established here.
