Everyday more and more families are affected by Autism and the disorders on the Autism Spectrum. Most of you know my brother and his wife, Liz. For the last 10 years they have been tackling it head on with all their free time. Now they need us. Their son, Hudson, is 5 years old and in desperate need of help. After years of doctor and speciality visits, he now needs intensive in-home and outpatient behavioral therapy. The costs as you can imagine, are challenging. Erik and Liz are a hard working, middle-class family, WITH health insurance. Both are in public sector jobs and devote their careers to helping others. Unfortunately, their insurance will not cover any therapy. It is estimated a year of intensive therapy will cost them $15,000. Erik and Liz have spent nearly $65,000 out of pocket in 12 years caring for two children with special needs. It is time we come together and give back.
