Access to Free Menstrual Products
Donation protected
We, the students at NC State, believe that we should have free and easy access to menstrual hygiene products. These products are a form of health care and a resource all students should have readily available to them. This past year the NC State Student Government was able to secure free products for a pilot program this semester, but no continual funding has been secured. We the students want to show the university that we consider a free menstrual product program to be a community priority and value. We will be using this money to purchase and donate tampons and pads for Talley Student Union. This will provide access for students while Talley Student Union finds funding of their own to sustain this service to students.
Based off of the success of other UNC-System school's free menstrual products programs and inflating to match NC State's size, the cost to host a free menstrual product program in Talley Student Union is only $2,000 (when purchasing from University approved vendor - CardinalHealth) a year. We inflated our fundraising goal in order to accommodate the vendor we have access to as students (Staples).
What your donation will mean for NC State students:
$5 - 33 Tampons or 20 Pads
$25 - 166 Tampons or 100 Pads
$100 - 666 Tampons or 400 Pads
We the students would like to thank DH Hill library and James B Hunt for making a commitment to students and providing these free resources. We would like to thank University Recreation for making the verbal commitment to provide cost-free dispensers and free products in their locker rooms during the Carmichael renovation. We would like to thank Talley Student Union for hosting the free menstrual product pilot program this past semester and for being committed to finding a way to sustain this program. We would like to thank the students and organizations that have stepped up and helped run the pilot program this past semester. Last but not least we would like to thank Jasmine Park, the graduate student that was brave enough to lobby the NC State Student Government to include funding for such a pilot in the 97th session budget.
