Hey ya'll!
My screenplay, "A Rose in Boston," is a romantic comedy that tells the story of Robyn and Omar, two lovers who have broken up and embark on separate journeys of healing through therapy. Their experiences reflect the challenges many of us face in building healthy, loving relationships, and the story is deeply inspired by my own path of growth and self-discovery. I wanted to share the lessons I've learned about love and healing, hoping to connect with others who may see themselves in Robyn and Omar's struggles and triumphs. This is the love story the world needs right now.
Setting the story in Boston was important to me, as I wanted to highlight the lives and histories of Black and brown Bostonians. Too often, our presence in the city is overlooked, but we have a rich and vibrant community that deserves to be seen and celebrated! Through this staged reading and the making of this movie, I hope to bring attention to these stories and foster greater understanding and appreciation for our experiences.
UPDATE** The staged reading will take place in New York City in December, featuring talented actors from both Boston and New York. Funds raised will go toward booking a venue, compensating my collaborators for their work, and covering costs associated with launching my production company. Your support will help bring this important project to life and ensure that our voices are heard.
This movie is for us, Boston! And this reading is a crucial step in the script's development. The goal is to raise the money by **October 27** to be able to begin producing the event. Any amount helps! For as little as the cost of a cup of coffee, you could invest in the process of getting this story onto the big screen and forever putting to rest that dreaded question, "There's Black people in Boston?".
Love,
Sharmarke
