A Mother’s Miracle: A single Mom & Nurse's Road to Recovery

My name is Janice, and I am a friend of Jhona. On behalf of her other concerned friends and our community, I am raising money to help cover Jhona’s medical expenses and essential living costs following a life-altering accident.

On February 16, our dear sister in Christ, Jhona, and her 14-year-old daughter were involved in a devastating car accident. We praise the Lord for His divine protection, as both survived the crash. While her daughter was shielded from serious harm, Jhona sustained the full weight of the impact, resulting in severe and life-altering injuries.

Jhona is currently facing a long and difficult recovery from Major Blunt Trauma. Her injuries are extensive and require a multi-disciplinary approach to healing:
  • Multiple Pelvic Fractures: She sustained acute fractures across both sides of her pelvis (bilateral pubic rami and sacral ala), which have left her immobile and in need of months of rehabilitation.
  • Head & Body Trauma: She suffered a scalp laceration and lung contusions (bruising to the lungs), making her initial recovery critical.
  • Hand Injuries: A suspected fracture in her left hand, currently in a cast, further limits her daily mobility.

As a mother who has always been the pillar of her household, navigating this period of physical limitation is a trial that tests both the body and the spirit.

Jhona is a devoted single mother and a temporary foreign worker here in Alberta. To many in our community, she is also a familiar face of comfort and care, Jhona is a nurse at Sienna Senior Living in Medicine Hat. She has spent her days and often nights, caring for our seniors, providing compassion to those in need, and serving our local community with a selfless heart.

For a nurse who is used to being on her feet serving others, the transition to being unable to work is both a financial and emotional challenge. The assistance available is simply not enough to cover mounting medical supplies, specialized therapy, and basic household necessities for her and her daughter.

We are called to carry one another’s burdens, and right now, Jhona’s burden is heavy. We humbly ask you to help us expand this circle of support:
  • Financial Support: Your donations will bridge the gap between her limited benefits and the actual cost of her recovery and household needs.
  • Prayers: We ask for continued prayers for total restoration of her body, for strength in her spirit, and for God’s provision.
  • Advocate & Share: Please don't just share this within your own circles—reach out to your wider networks. Share this on your public social media, with your colleagues, in community groups, and with anyone who might be moved by Jhona's story. Every time this is shared outside our immediate group, it brings a new opportunity for Jhona to receive the help she needs.
  • Please leave a message of support of Jhona and her daughter. Knowing her community is behind her will give her strength she needs to keep fighting through her therapy.

Jhona has always been a worker and a giver. Now, as she navigates this season of healing, let us be the hands and feet of Jesus for her. Thank you for your compassion, your prayers, and your generosity.

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." – Galatians 6:2
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” - Galatians 6:10
