Please help a family about to be homeless

My name is Jennifer and I am fundraising for a local Six Nations family that is weeks away from being homeless. Johns family consists of him a single father of a 15 year old Autistic daughter and his older 21 year old married daughter whom lives in the home with her husband and 7 month old child.

Let me tell the most condensed story I can, though it is very involved.
In Nov of 2022 Johns family had water installed in their home by contractors hired by Six Nations elected council. The contractor was supposed to return in the spring to check instal and ensure all was well after ground settling occurred. They did not. That very spring rain brought a huge flood in to the house.

It ran through the house from the site of the pipe insulation like a river soaking the home. Ruining newly installed floors destroying newly installed dry wall and soaking furniture. The family did their best to mop it up and move forward.
At this time they did not understand it was the installation causing problems and that a sink hole had developed around the installation site. Several rain storms later that spring the home flooded each time and mold and moisture started to destroy the home that was under renovations. The new flooring had to be ripped out as it was lifting from the moisture and ruined this included flooring and carpet

At that point it was discovered that the flooding was due to the water installation being done incorrectly. An independent plumber came to look at the install and pointed out it was not up to code and looked amateur at best. He pointed out that the incorrect length of piping was installed and there was no insulation around the pipe nor was there any proper finishing to the project.

Johns family was in the middle of renovating the space on their own before the floods, but had to stop once the flooding started to destroy all their progress and mold began to appear.

John approached council and explained the situation. For over a year council has been making promises and not following through and have refused to fix what their contractor destroyed. The home has now been condemned by two contractors. Due to the mold infestation they said it could not be repaired. Council sent in a cleaning crew to rid the house of mold thinking this was sufficient to remedy all the destruction their contractor created. The cleaning crew refused the job stating the mold was too far gone and cleaning was not the answer

An application was made to Jordan’s principal to help with funding to rebuild the home council destroyed as council is refusing to pay to rebuild the home saying because it was under renovations at the time of flooding they are not responsible to rebuild a house that was not fully finished inside. Without making note that had they not filled the house with mold the renovations would have kept moving forward as the family could pay for materials.

jordans principal removed the family approximately two months ago and put them up in a hotel pending decision for funding and because the home is unsafe to live in. Prior to that council left them in a house they destroyed with mold.

the decision came down on May 16th that Jordan’s Principal would not fund the repairs because it is out of their abilities and policies.

The funding for the hotel runs out in a few weeks and the family cannot return to the home. The home has fallen into even further despair while they have been away from the home in the hotel as no one has been home to daily clean the surfaces and try to fight a war against the mold, in addition a rat infestation has taken place with no humans present. In short the family has been stripped of ever having hope to clean or repair the home by councils lagging on decisions. For a year the family has been back and forth without communication or answers for any plans other than inspection and inspection and air testing

When the funding runs out they have nowhere to go and no money to start anywhere else Not to mention the property has been in the family for quite some time.

A local contractor in Hamilton has said they can bull doze (the only option now) the house and rebuild it in the same style for $497000, so we are trying to raise enough for this to happen.

John does not qualify for a housing loan from council and if he did he wouldn’t have had a house he needed to renovate and repair himself to begin with. The home was 3/4 finished with the upstairs portion designated for his oldest daughter’s family complete and he was working on the downstairs when the floods began.

This family needs a group of helping hands. They’ve had such a run around the past year and their mental health is not good at all. The trauma has been very real. The pic below is from the third flood and the one that caused all the flooring to be ripped out.
