A Little Bit of Courage: Carter’s Story

update: at this time I’d like to give a over due update on our son Carter. Carter peacefully passed away on the 29th, I do apologize for not updating sooner as this was the worst day we could have imagined. Everything donated will be going towards cost for Carters funeral cost and as well as helping us stay afloat as we navigate what is to come. we are grateful for everyone that has shown love, a prayer, comfort compassion and or donated to Carter. We will be having his service Nov 11th. And will keep our go fund me up for those who still wish to donate. Thank you all for everything. My family and I are eternally grateful.

Carter’s Fight — Help Us Stay By His Side

Carter is our bright, brave, ocean-loving 6-year-old. He adores sharks, whales, and especially whale sharks — the gentle giants of the sea. He is silly, gentle, compassionate, and the best big brother his siblings could ever ask for. Even with everything he faces, Carter always finds a reason to smile, laugh, and share love with the world around him.

Carter was born with an extremely rare genetic deficiency called TTC7A, which causes multiple intestinal atresia and severe combined immune deficiency (SCID). To save his life, he needed emergency surgery at birth that left him with just 29 cm of small intestine and nothing distal. A jejunostomy was made, a g-tube, and central line were placed and he was put on life sustaining total parenteral nutrition (TPN). During the early weeks of his life, he was exposed to CMV through a blood transfusion — adding another major battle to his tiny body. Carter has lived with these life-limiting conditions for six years now. The hardest phase by far has been the last three months when he battled necrotizing pancreatitis and several bouts of antibiotic resistant infections. Despite all of this he has continued to fight with incredible courage every single day of his life.

Over the last week, Carter has taken a heartbreaking turn. As of October 26th, he has been rapidly declining, and doctors have told us that there are very few options left to treat him. His liver is failing, making dialysis too dangerous. Other therapies carry life-threatening risks like bleeding and blood clots. We are now facing the devastating reality that Carter may be headed toward organ failure — something no parent should ever have to hear.

Still… Carter keeps fighting.
And we are fighting right alongside him.

We are both doing everything possible to remain by his side in the PICU. But the financial strain — medical costs, caring for our other children, and time away from work — has become impossible to carry alone. We want to ensure that Carter is surrounded by comfort and love, and that nothing stands in the way of being right here with him for every moment he needs us.

We are asking for help to:

• Keep our family afloat during this unimaginable time
• Support the costs of being here with Carter around the clock
• Bring comfort and joy to our sweet boy as he continues his fight

Every donation, every share, and every message of love or prayer means more than we can express. Your support gives us the ability to stay focused on what matters most: loving Carter and surrounding him with courage, comfort, and hope.

Thank you for standing with us — for lifting Carter up, for believing in him, and for helping us cherish every moment with our warrior.

A Little Bit of Courage Carter Strong. Always.
