Support Neurodiversity Events and Outreach

Donation protected
Hi there! We are Good Creation, co-organizer of Clark Botanic Garden's art exhibit "A Different View - Art Through the Lens of Neurodiversity". We are raising funds to support future neurodiversity events and outreach.

//Update July 21: We did it! Opening night was a success in raising awareness of neurodiversity. We had hundreds of people from diverse backgrounds come to appreciate art, music, and dance by talented, neurodivergent people. Many new connections were made. We hope they will lead to friendships and employment opportunities for our neurodivergent brothers and sisters.

Recognition awards were presented to the artists by our town and district officials: Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Councilwoman Veronica Lurvey, Councilman Peter Zuckerman, and Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti.

We want to have more outreach events in the future to raise neurodiversity awareness in many more communities. We are fundraising to help cover the cost of supplies and travel. Please consider sharing our fundraiser. To donate, please click “Donate” below. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.//

First, a little bit about us...
We are a small business that does custom printing and teaches this craft through our in-person classes open to all abilities. Our mission is to make goods that uplift our customers and makers. Through our classes, we have met some wonderful neurodivergent teens and young adults. We appreciate and love these individuals who are as diverse in their personalities as they are in their abilities.

Why an art exhibit?
"There are two distinct languages. There is the verbal, which separates people… and there is the visual that is understood by everybody." - Yaacov Agam

It was serendipitous when John Darcy (Director at Clark Botanic Garden) met our student Kevin during the Garden's park cleanup event. Kevin, an avid photographer, was busily darting around the garden and taking photos. After seeing Kevin's photos of the Garden, John proposed the idea of exhibiting these photos.

Putting on an exhibit is not in our wheelhouse, but we could not decline the opportunity. This was an opportunity for Kevin to show his view of the world and "speak" to others. Kevin does not talk much, but what he lacks in speech is expressed through his art and photography.

We included the art of other neurodiverse peers, because they too deserve to be supported and recognized. Being neurodivergent makes one different - not lesser. Some common examples of neurodivergence include autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Acquired neurological conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and Alzheimer's disease can also lead to neurodivergence.* Chances are that you already know someone who is neurodivergent.

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." - Pablo Picasso

When you walk through the exhibit, take the time to ponder and get lost in your own thoughts. Will you see something in a new light? Will you be taken back to a familiar place? What does this artwork say to you when it's free to simply exist?

Where will the funds go?
Good Creation will donate 50% of net proceeds to Clark Botanic Garden. John and his team contributed greatly to the success of this exhibit. We will update this page once the donation has been made to Clark Botanic Garden.

The remainder will be used to fund future events in which our neurodiverse students participate. We have started brainstorming and planning for a year-end event. We will update our website's Events page with future events.

What does net proceeds mean? Funds will first cover the cost of materials purchased to prepare the exhibit. All labor and performances are on a volunteer basis aka free :)
