Help support UTHSCSA School of Medicine's global health trip to Guatemala this summer 2015!
The ¡Vamos Guatemala! global health trip is an international service learning experience sponsored by UT Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Center for the Medical Humanities and Ethics (CMHE). We are dedicated to providing health care and public health support to the rural community of Urbina, Guatemala. This trip is the 3-week summer component of a bi-annual project that serves over 500 patients in an acute-care clinic.
¡Vamos Guatemala! Summer trip is engaged in:
1. Operation of an acute-care clinic by UTHSCSA physicians and medical students that is designed to address health issues and provide preventive screenings and well-person exams.
2. Delivery of a health education curriculum and health care to 20 young girls, between the ages of 6 and 19, at the Hogar Luis Amigo all-girls orphanage.
3. Execution of a public health needs assessment
4. Observing the holistic model of care employed by the Clinica Familiar Luis Angel Garcia (CFLAG), a HIV clinic in Guatemala City.
To achieve these goals the project needs your financial support! A total $10,000 estimated cost (encompassing the work and effort of 7 students and 2 faculty) is needed to reach our goal of meeting or exceeding past service.
Thank you,
