In April 2026, Chanel and Tristan Cezair's world was upended when Tristan was diagnosed with Glioblastoma IDH-wild Grade 4 — the most aggressive form of brain cancer. The couple, who were balancing work and raising three children all under the age of eight, suddenly found themselves navigating emergency hospitalizations and major surgery. They are now facing an estimated $500,000 in lost income, uninsured medical expenses, childcare costs, and unknown expenses ahead.

Tristan has no life insurance or other coverage, so these funds are critical — not only to support the family now, but to cover end-of-life care and begin building a foundation for Chanel and their children's future.

It began in mid-April with severe headaches and nausea. Tristan was initially sent home from emergency with an assumed migraine diagnosis. It took multiple hospital visits before doctors ordered a CT scan, prompted by signs of serious cognitive decline. The scan revealed a massive tumor — 4.5cm by 3cm — surrounded by an 11cm by 7cm area of swelling. Tristan was immediately transferred to Kingston General, where he underwent eight hours of surgery to remove 80% of the tumor, along with 20% of his right frontal lobe.

On the day he was set to be discharged, Tristan suffered a stroke, leaving him with limited mobility on the left side of his body. He is now learning to walk with a walker, though function in his left hand and arm may never fully return. He has since begun an intensive treatment course of radiation and chemotherapy — 60 sessions over six weeks, followed by six months of chemotherapy, and hopefully six more months after that.

Through it all, Tristan has remained as positive as he can, holding onto hope for the sake of his family and the people who love him. He was told the average life expectancy for this diagnosis, with treatment, is 12 months — and that was before the stroke. His family now holds that uncertainty close, cherishing every moment they have together.

Tristan and Chanel are deeply woven into their communities. Tristan has built a respected career in the Toronto film industry, earning a Canadian Screen Award and a reputation for his warmth and creative talent. Chanel owns and runs a beloved hair salon in Toronto's King West neighbourhood. Four years ago, the family relocated to Grafton to raise their children closer to nature — a life they were building together.

Over the next 12 months, the financial impact is estimated at just under $500,000. This includes the loss of two household incomes, significant uninsured medical and long-term care costs, ongoing childcare, additional demands on Chanel's business, and a mortgage shortfall that puts their family home at risk. No amount of money can undo what this family is facing — but these funds can offer stability when it matters most, so they can focus on care, and on time together.
