UPDATE MAY 26, 2021.....
Savanna has begun a course of treatment. Currently she is on 40MG of Prednisone (a steroid) and 100MG of Azathioprine (a Immunosuppressive). Our hope is to slow down the cirrhosis growth on her liver and prolong the "more than likely inevitable" liver transplant. We are going to try this treatment for the next six months and repeat the biopsy. In the meantime, we have been given a referral to a pediatric liver transplant specialist in Orlando to get her set up and ready for when it is needed. Please continue to pray for our princess, this is going to be a long hard road for her. Currently, even through all of the pain, weakness, nausea and overall fatigue, she wants everyone to know she's "not going to die" and appreciates everyone's love and support. Our whole family does. We are doing everything we can to keep her in these good spirits hoping she will continue to fight. We still have no answers as to exactly which auto immune disease she has. Her first doctors appointment in Tampa is in two weeks and I will update everyone as soon as possible. From the bottom of our hearts, our whole family appreciates all of the love and support everyone has shown us through all of this. Please tell your loved ones how much they mean to you and give them extra hugs and kisses because you honestly never know what tomorrow brings. The Webster's
UPDATE MAY 3, 2021.....
Savanna has been officially diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease With Cirrhosis On Her Liver Due To An Unknown Auto Immune Disease. We still have no course of action for treatment yet. She is being sent to All Children's Hospital here in Florida to help determine the auto immune disease and her liver specialist is consulting with two additional liver specialists (one here in Florida and one in Saint Paul) to help determine the course of treatment. She has some days where she is in so much pain and is so weak, she can not move let alone get out of bed and she has some days where she does better. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to Thank Everyone for everything you have done for her. Your contributions have helped to keep her as happy and as comfortable as possible. We will continue to keep everyone updated throughout her journey. The Webster's
HOW IT ALL STARTED...
On Tuesday, March 23rd, my 12-year-old daughter Savanna collapsed. Days prior to this episode, she complained of stomach aches, back pains, all-around feeling unwell. She experienced bouts of fatigue and dry heaves throughout the weekend and was also sent home from school the day before collapsing.
It all started when I was sitting down for my morning coffee; I heard a loud thump! Her father and I ran inside to see what had transpired. We found our little girl on the ground, white as a ghost and her lips a dark shade of blue. I immediately called 911.
Savanna was transported to the Gosilano Children's Hospital in Fort Myers, where they immediately admitted her to the ICU and she has been there ever since. Since her admission, she has received blood transfusions and has had 2 additional episodes which have caused her to collapse again. She has been through a battery of tests, she is showing dangerously low hemoglobin and platelet counts which led the doctors to believe she has a rare autoimmune deficiency that is causing her blood to fight against itself.
The doctors are working around the clock to figure out if she is dealing with an acute episode or a chronic episode of a condition called ITP which they believe she has. Back in 2018, Savanna was diagnosed with a condition called Gilbert's Syndrome which affects her liver functions. Having these two conditions together are causing serious havoc on Savanna's body.
Savanna will continue to need blood transfusions, lots of medicines, an overabundance of doctor's visits, and everything else that comes along with being sick. At this time, Savanna does not carry any health insurance. So the bills have already started to pile up and they haven't even made a final decision on a diagnosis for her yet.
I want to share a little about my Savanna, she is not only a tough cookie but also a very intelligent one. Currently, she is in the 7th grade, but attending all 8th-grade classes. Top contender on the A/B honor roll and an avid animal lover! She is the queen of the reptile and exotic animal world when it comes to her pets, with a lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian just to help protect the natural habitats of these animals. Her long-time idol is Emily who works for Snake Discovery!
If you can find it within yourself to donate, or even share our story about our daughter Savanna, we would be very grateful and appreciative! Thank you so very much
