Hello!

My name is Kirstie and I'm trying to raise money to fund my return, month-long trip to the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans. In 2005, a raging storm blew through the city, Hurricane Katrina. Levees broke, destroying much and leaving thousands homeless. The Lower Ninth is located near one of the biggest levees to break. Because of this, the community was pretty much wiped out. To this day, it is still in major need of repair. Almost 8 years later and there is still no grocery store. To say this community needs help is an understatement.

In March, I was blessed with the opportunity to go for a week through lowernine.org and volunteer in the Lower Ninth. I was assigned to a house and helped make it inhabitable after damage due to Hurricane Katrina. It was the most amazing and meaningful week of my life. I would love the opportunity to go back for even longer. It is my hope that by staying for a longer period of time, I will be able to make more of an impact and help more people.
