Parkland for Sierra Leone 2018

$20 will send one child of Sierra Leone to school for a whole year!



What is our goal?


The country of Sierra Leone underwent a horrific and violent civil war from 1991 to 2002. The war left the country in a state of extreme poverty and instability that still is present in many rural areas there today. Those especially impacted are the children of Sierra Leone who cannot afford to go to school, eat more than one small meal a day, or gain access to school supplies. Our campaign aims to alleviate the struggle that these young children and their families face every day. Just $20 could send a kid to school tuition free for one year.


What will we do with the money?


The money we raise is going directly to Centennial Secondary School in Mattru Jong.


How do we know for sure that the money will go directly to Centennial Secondary School?

We connect directly with the Allentown West Rotary Club Foundation to collect the money and transfer it to the school for the causes previously specified. All donations will be tax deductible. The Centennial school will provide receipts to verify that the money is being spent as intended. The Lehigh Valley Rotary has done this previously for several other projects with the school.



How does this correlate to what we learned in the classroom?


Our teachers, John Greth and Jarrod Neff, have added “A Long Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah to our curriculum. This book explains the inhumanity of war and the importance of education. It shows us, as humans, it is our responsibility to help those in need even if we are not personally affected.
