The sudden murder of our friend Ari Fuld HY”D shook the foundations of Efrat and Gush Etzion. The footage of his final moments only deepened the pain. “We lost a real hero, a person who was almost above nature,” said many Efrat residents on social networks.
The agony of losing someone so special left a void in the lives of many, a void that could not be healed through time but rather through action. Not just any action would do, but an act that embodies all that Ari stood for. A Zionist endeavor is not only an appropriate response, but the exact response that Ari would have wanted. An act noble and brave that will continue the work he so cherished for the country he loved.
Few know, but when Moshiko (Moshe Moskowitz) and Rabbi Riskin arrived to establish Efrat almost 30 years ago, they decided to start with the settlement of Givat Ha’Eitam, which connects eastern Gush Etzion to the center of Gush Etzion. This plan was shelved due to various constraints but was not abandoned.
For 25 years there have been repeated attempts to preserve and settle Givat Ha’Eitam as Efrat’s most important reserve. However, the attempts failed over and over again. In the meantime, the Arab population of the area has been slowly gaining control of several strategic parts of it and illegally stealing Jewish owned land.
For several years we have had a dream to establish an educational farm for the youth of Israel and abroad, where they will learn to love the land, to take responsibility and pursue a profession.
This is the first step towards developing the Eitam into a settlement full of homes that will protect our land.
A group of partners had begun to plan and assess the protection and development of the Eitam. This group of partner's entire essence was a burning love for the Nation of Israel in the Land of Israel. This group fully understood the vision and with their strategic experience in the field, worked together to help further develop this idea.
As the community has been faced with much terror and Arab aggression we have felt that the greatest Zionist answer must be presented In honor of all who have been effected by terror and we demanded the establishment of the farm immediately on Givat Ha’Eitam. In cooperation with the Efrat Council, the army, the Ministry of Defense and the Civil Administration, we received all necessary permits. Within 24 hours, we, together with a group of young Israelis and foreigners, went and started building.
Since then, we have been on this barren hilltop, working, building, and developing to the best of our abilities. We have minimal equipment but with much faith and a lot of hope we trust that the residents of Efrat, Gush Etzion and the rest of the Nation of Israel will understand the historic importance of this move and take part in whatever way they can.
