Mom's Funeral & Homegoing Service

Janice Susie Thompson worked extremely hard every day to take care of her 2 children Phillip and Phontaine. She made sure they had everything they needed and made sure to raise them in the church as babies teaching them to be kind to others and love everyone as your neighbor. Janice also had 1 grandchild Nyla Thompson that she had a hand in raising. Her grandaughter Nyla was her baby and she loved her deeply as any awesome Grandmother would.

My mom went into the hospital for a check up to treat a common cold in early December 2016, right before her birthday. After being checked, her prognosis revealed she had congestive heart failure. That moment took us all by surprise, so we immediately scheduled her to have triple bypass heart surgery on December 16th; however, she ended up being admitted to the hospital on December 13th with a minor heart attack. The doctors confirmed that her heart was too weak to perform the triple bypass heart surgery. The quick alternative and best option at that time for her was to have a Stent Procedure where the doctors were able to successfully place 7 stents in her heart allowing blood to flow normally. From there it was a waiting game to see how her body would react and thankfully she was able to walk out of the hospital under her own strength 3 weeks later.

After a few weeks, doctors approved her to go back to work for Cobb County school system as a crossing guard. She was so happy and excited to be going back to work and as long as anyone has ever known my mom, you know she always kept a job and always enjoyed whatever job she was working at the time. She always had a hustle. In my eyes, she was the ultimate hustler. I just love that woman!

Unfortunately, she left us suddenly, passing away in her vehicle right after getting off work from heart complications. A nurse found her and did what she could to help. We are so thankful that God was able to provide strength to the cardiovascular surgery team at kennestone wellstar hospital to perform the Stent procedure to give us more time with our mom before he was ready to call her home. I honestly believe he was trying to call her home back in December, but she wasn't ready to go yet. She fought and used that strength that she has had her entire life to stay with us a little longer and I believe she passed it to us. She has taught me how to work, how to treat others, how to appreciate blessings and the people around me. We are so thankful to and for her.

I could go on and on, but I know you all may feel like you know her already. I miss her more as every moment passes.

The funds are for her funeral services, cremation and to get me, my sister,  and niece back to Chicago where she is from for her service and spreading of her ashes. She always did for others, so we are doing our best to make sure we do for her and hope you can help us.

Her service in Atlanta was on August 11, 2017... And there will be a second service in Chicago at a later date to spread her ashes over Lake Michigan. We are planning to get her to her final resting place as soon as possible.

I, Phillip Thompson, will be in charge of final expenses. Every bit will help and I thank you in advance for helping us take care of our Mother during this very unexpected and difficult time.

I love you all!

Phillip.
