Operation: Graduation
Greetings,
After what
seemed like an eternity away from school, I decided in August 2010 to reenter
college as a full-time student. My decision to do so was not based on social
gratification, peer pressure or "fitting in" --college is too expensive
for that-- but
it was birthed out of years of frustration, lack and an overwhelming sense of
underachievement. What I understood then and even more so now, is that in order
to achieve goals, mountains must be climbed, rivers must be crossed and dirt
must be dug. Essentially, work must be done. So I packed my hand-me-down car,
the blue bomber, and left the sunny coast of Southern California to the arid
land and unforgiving temperatures of Arizona to enroll in Arizona State
University.
Since
I've been enrolled, I have excelled in the classroom and I've also been blessed
with the opportunity to be influential in the lives of many students on campus.
But the reality is that regardless of the excellent grades I receive, or the
model student I've become, at the end of the day, the university requires me to
pay tuition, housing, books and other fees to stay enrolled. I am only two
semesters away from graduation and the closer I get, the harder it becomes. The
obstacle I face isn't complacency, poor grades, or lack of campus involvement;
it is the fear of not being able to afford to finish.
I am
humbly asking that you help me to cover a balance of $6,000 so that I can
continue my education at Arizona State. I've applied for scholarships, grants,
personal loans, private loans, university loans and work study. ANY amount that
you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated. Even if you are unable
to support monetarily, your prayers, encouragement, and well-wishes are needed.
Your contribution will allow me to obtain my bachelor's degree in Urban
Planning and pursue a dream of building infrastructure in lesser developed
communities and countries. You all have my prayers as well, God bless you!
A hungry and needy college student,
Jairus (JR) Williams
