Use your God-given gifts to serve others.
My name is Stacy, I graduated from college in May 2016 with a degree in Business Administration. I am volunteering for a year with a program called Passionist Volunteers International (PVI). PVI is a program dedicated to service to the rural poor of Jamaica, West Indies. As a Volunteer I commit to one year of international service to aid in the troubled journey of others. I am currently serving in three different areas: a nursing home, an infirmary and a basic school.
At the Balaclava nursing home I visit the patients twice a week and spend quality time with them. During this time I come up with different ideas to entertain the residents. Some of the things I do include nail painting, playing music, reading the bible and other stories. In addition to providing entertainment I also help provide personal care to the patients. This includes feeding the patients, painting their nails, shaving their facial hair, nail clipping and more.
At the Santa Cruz infirmary I volunteer at, I have similar rresponsibilities to what I do at at the nursing home, but also play games with the patients including dominoes and checkers. I also sing church hymns to the patients who are bed ridden. On the last week of every month I partner with the local church to bring food to the patients.
Lastly, I volunteer at a basic school I work with 3 to 5 year olds by helping out in the classroom. Some of my responsibilities include teaching lessons, grading assignments, assigning homework and providing one-on-one extra help to students that need it.
 The living costs of a Volunteer at PVI is roughly $6,000. These costs cover food, housing, transportation, and other necessities during a Volunteer's time in Jamaica. To help offset some of these costs, PVI asks each of its volunteers to help raise some of these funds. I decided to make a GoFundMe with the hopes that you will help support my year-long dream to help many people in Jamaica.
