Our family prayed this scripture over Matt when he was about to begin his firefighting career and now we pray this scripture over him as he battles cancer. 

My name is Taylor, I am organizing this campaign to help relieve the burden of costs associated with cancer treatment, recovery, and supplementing the disability income that is getting largely cut in July. 

 My brother-in-law Matt, was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma in July 2024. Matt has been a firefighter paramedic for the city of Riverside, California for 12 years. This is a work-related cancer diagnosis. Since his diagnosis he has battled through chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. He was considered to be in remission last December, but in February a new PET scan showed that the cancer was aggressive and already starting to come back. His doctors recommended he go through stem cell therapy, which consists of harvesting his own stem cells followed by intense chemotherapy. Once chemotherapy is finished the stem cells are reintroduced to help his immune system get back on track. After a two month extremely intense and painful battle through stem cell, doctors have confirmed that it was successful and he is in REMISSION!!!

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

The original $15,000 raised went to paying for Aly and their 3 kids staying close to Matt while he was in inpatient stem cell treatment in Houston. Hotels and Airbnb's are extremely expensive long term. 

The next battle the Powell’s are facing is that Matt’s doctors will not clear him to go back to work as a firefighter for at least 6 months to a year. The cancer treatments have ravaged his body and he will need that much time to get back to normal functioning capacity. Stem cell therapy stripped everything from his immune system, gut, and he is even shedding a layer of skin. It was extremely intense. Aly is researching and looking into a rehabilitation program that might help Matt get back to a higher functioning capacity sooner through nutrition and natural treatments. 

The second piece of this battle is that not only is Matt restricted from work, but his pay will get cut in half in July. The amount he will get from work will not get even close to paying necessary bills. His fire family is coming up with a strategy to cover him. But it is a significant amount to cover and I know friends and family want to help.
