Hello,

My name is Julie McIntosh Jackson, and I am deeply grateful for your time and attention to my story.

My son Chad and I have recently endured a devastating and unforeseen event in our home in Virginia Beach. Our tranquil lives were abruptly disrupted when the ceiling in our two-story foyer collapsed without warning. The cacophony was overwhelming as drywall and insulation descended, shattering the glass chandelier below.

By sheer fortune, neither Chad nor I were injured, though the emotional and financial impact has been profound. We were home at the time and this has had a huge emotional impact on my son. He wouldn't even go to that side of the house for weeks as he was scared and anxious. The collapse resulted from a water leak originating from our second-floor air conditioning system. The ceiling was critically compromised due to what we believe was negligence by the company that installed the unit years ago. Water had been leaking through an improperly connected pipe, causing extensive damage.

Chad and I have been living alone in the family home of 28 years for the last 2 1/2 years. We receive no spousal or child support due to a protracted and arduous legal battle over our divorce, which is now with the Court of Appeals in Richmond. This struggle has been both relentless and heartrending.
There has been very little contribution to its maintenance or payment of any household bills since September 2023. This neglect has resulted in our utilities being cut off without warning and the loss of our vehicle. Chad, who has special needs, receives SSI and works part-time, while I work as a personal trainer. We manage to cover our basic needs through a frugal lifestyle but lack the means to address catastrophic events like this.

Compounding our difficulties, there is no mortgage on our home, but there is also no homeowners insurance, leaving us vulnerable to this calamity.

The costs to repair our home are staggering: $3,400 to repair the ceiling, $1,720 to replace the condenser in the AC unit (labor only), $500 for cleanup, $396 for the emergency AC service, the chandelier will need to be removed and replaced.

Regrettably, we have not received any financial assistance and can not sell the home at this time. Any donation, regardless of size, would be an immeasurable blessing for Chad and me during this arduous time. Your generosity will enable us to not only restore our home but also rebuild our lives.

With heartfelt gratitude for your kindness and support,
Julie Jackson
