Samuel is a vibrant, kind-hearted 7-year-old boy battling Chordoma cancer located in his brain stem, and is in dire need of your help! Doctors have told us that he needs special proton beam radiology treatments located in the United States and has less than 2 months to take action in order to save his life. We are trying to get him a medical visa and hoping to find sponsors to help save his life. Without this treatment, Samuel has less than 1 year left to live. He will require several sessions of proton beam radiation in order to survive. Each treatment alone could cost upwards of $80,000 USD. Chordoma is a rare type of bone cancer, and even more rare in children. It affects 1 in every 1 million people a year in the U.S. Given the location of the cancer (within his brain stem) he is suffering from severe headaches, highly impaired vision, numbness, weakness, extreme pressure in his head, and several neurological issues. Samuel loves to ride bikes, skate, and read. He is a loving boy who cares for his family. Samuel was symptom-free until recently when he was having trouble seeing, and his eye started to lose traction. His parents immediately took him to the doctor. Several scans later, it was discovered that he had a tumor, so large that it was putting immense pressure on his eyes and optic nerves. That moment Samuel’s life changed forever, but he did not give up! Samuel and his family began a long, crucial, challenging and burdening yet hopeful journey in order to save him. He has had 3 surgeries within less than a year. His first diagnostic was an invasive, serious cranial surgery in attempt to biopsy the tumor. Testing then followed to discover it was cancerous. The following surgeries were extremely difficult and invasive. 3 scary, uncertain cranial surgeries in attempts to save his life. The first surgery they entered through the front from his nasal passage. The second from the right side of his head, and the third from the left side of his head. Instead of running around on the playground or making friends at school, Samuel, a loving 7 year old boy, is facing one of the most difficult types of cancer and fighting for his life what his life can be. Right before entering the operating room, he looked at his Dad and promised he’d come back. For the most part, they were able to remove 90% of the tumor. Unfortunately, they were only able to remove a portion and had to leave some behind where doctors could not risk removal. They expected that Samuel would live till he was 18, but the cancer has come back furiously in a short period of time, and the only thing that will save Samuel’s life is proton beam radiation that is only available in the U.S. Samuel is from Colombia, and we are working tirelessly to get him a medical visa and help fly out him and his father to the U.S. while he undergoes treatment that needs to start soon. This journey does not end here. He must continue through several sessions of radiation, and post-treatment to hopefully prevent the cancer from growing back. Samuel es un niño de 7 años energico y de buen corazón que lucha contra el cáncer de Cordoma localizado en su tronco cerebral, ¡y necesita urgentemente tu ayuda! Los médicos nos han dicho que necesita tratamientos especiales de radiología con protones ubicados en los Estados Unidos y tiene menos de 2 meses para tomar medidas para poder salvar su vida. Necesitará varias sesiones de radiación con protones para sobrevivir. Cada tratamiento cuesta alrededor de $80,000 USD. El Cordoma es un tipo raro de cáncer de huesos y aún más raro en los niños. Afecta a 1 de cada 1 millón de personas al año en los EEUU. Dada la ubicación del cáncer (dentro de su tronco cerebral), sufre dolores de cabeza severos, visión muy deteriorada, entumecimiento, debilidad, presión extrema en la cabeza y varios problemas neurológicos.  A Samuel le encanta montar en bicicleta, patinar y leer. Es un niño cariñoso que se preocupa por su familia. Samuel no tenía síntomas hasta hace poco, cuando tenía problemas para ver y su ojo comenzó a perder tracción. Sus padres lo llevaron de inmediato al médico. Varias exploraciones después, se descubrió que tenía un tumor, tan grande que estaba ejerciendo una presión inmensa sobre sus ojos y nervios ópticos. En ese momento la vida de Samuel cambió para siempre, ¡pero no se rindió! Samuel y su familia iniciaron un viaje largo, crucial, desafiante y agobiante pero esperanzador para salvarlo. Ha tenido 3 cirugías en menos de un año. Su primer diagnóstico fue una cirugía craneal invasiva y grave en un intento de biopsia del tumor. Luego siguieron las pruebas para descubrir que era canceroso. Las siguientes cirugías fueron extremadamente difíciles e invasivas. 3 cirugías craneales aterradoras e inciertas en un intento por salvarle la vida. En la primera cirugía ingresaron por el frente desde su pasaje nasal. El segundo desde el lado derecho de su cabeza y el tercero desde el lado izquierdo de su cabeza. En lugar de correr por el patio de recreo o hacer amigos en la escuela, Samuel, un niño cariñoso de 7 años, se enfrenta a uno de los tipos de cáncer más difíciles y lucha por su vida. Justo antes de entrar al quirófano, miró a su papá y le prometió que volvería. En su mayor parte, pudieron extirpar el 90% del tumor. Desafortunadamente, solo pudieron quitar una porción y tuvieron que dejar algo atrás donde los médicos no podían arriesgarse a que lo quitaran. Esperaban que Samuel viviera hasta los 18 años, pero el cáncer ha regresado furiosamente en un corto período de tiempo, y lo único que salvará la vida de Samuel es la radiación con protones que solo está disponible en los EE.UU. Samuel es de Colombia, y estamos trabajando incansablemente para conseguirle una visa médica y ayudar a que él y su padre viajen a los Estados Unidos mientras se somete a un tratamiento que debe comenzar pronto.
