Saving my Mother's Back for X-Mas
**WE DID IT! YOU DID IT!**
Thank you all so much for your support. You are the real MVP's! I could not have done this without your generosity, but my mom and sister now have a lovely new lift and bathseat, plus some other excellent little aids that will make their lives easier and more comfortable. A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone who donated, and to everyone who shared the cause and spread the word. I can't thank you enough for helping my family!
For History's sake, here is the campaign that got enough support to improve my family's lives. Thank you all again for your generosity:
For Christmas, I want to have my mother's back. She's had mine so many times. I'm hoping to buy a medical lift and bath seat which will make my mother's days easier and will help my sister to stay clean and comfortable despite her immobility.
My mother is the only caretaker of my sister, Sarah. When I was 3, my mother gave birth to my little sister. The doctors told my parents to bring her home and make her comfortable, as she would likely not make it to her first birthday. Sarah overcame the odds and is now a beautiful, affectionate young woman of twenty-one with severe disabilities. My mother lifts and moves her, almost always unassisted, multiple times per day. My mother is as tough as nails, but she is also over 40 years old (though I'm sure she wouldn't approve of my saying just how far over 40 she is) and her back is simply not up to the task as much as it was before.
My mother has been Sarah's caretaker since day one. She has fought for Sarah's well-being, and has devoted her days to making sure my sister is comfortable and loved. Since Sarah is immobile and unable to communicate, this is more than a full-time job. This is a 24-hour per day job with no vacations.
After my parents divorced, my mother moved out and was left to take care of Sarah alone. I can't even begin to tell you what sort of stress this must be on her.
Sarah is a vibrant and playful woman, but without the ability to move herself due to cerebral palsy and severe brain damage, she cannot feed herself, bathe herself, dress herself, or even stand. She can't help my mom get herself into a chair. She can't tell my mom when she's been laying in one position for too long.
A donation towards this much-needed medical equipment would be a miraculous gift for us. My mother, Sarah and I have been through some of the toughest times I've known in the past few years. After a house fire two years ago, much of Sarah's medical equipment was lost - and uninsured. I barely make enough money to support myself, and my mother and sister live off of what little aid is afforded to them. Our goal is the exact cost of this equipment, and I am hoping beyond hope to have raised the funds necessary by Christmas.
My mom has been helping Sarah for the past twenty-one years, non-stop. Now, I want to help her.
I know that both my mother and Sarah would appreciate this so much. Any little bit helps. I can't even imagine what it would be like to press the "Order" button on this list of equipment. If my mother and sister get this life-changing medical equipment by Christmas, their entire holiday will be complete. They don't even know that I am raising money for them. They wouldn't even think it was possible. If we make it, I will try to get a video of my mom opening the gift - I know that she will cry. I will probably cry, too. It would be the absolute best Christmas that I've ever had, and it isn't even for me!
My mom's life will be dramatically improved if she doesn't have to stoop and strain to move my sister around. Following that, Sarah will be able to be moved much more frequently, meaning more time spent on the porch (which she adores in the summer!) and more time spent watching movies with the family.
If there is anything at all that I can do to help you click the donate button, send me an email. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you just want to know more about us, please let me know! My email is [adresse e-mail supprimée].
This would mean so much to all of us. Thank you so much for reading.
