Hi, my name is Kimberly, and I’m reaching out for support in honoring the life of my mother, Rhonda Shepard Belle—known to so many as Mama Belle. She passed away after a long, hard-fought battle with cervical cancer, leaving behind not only a legacy of love but also overwhelming financial challenges for our family.

Who Mama Belle Was:

• Mama Belle was the heart of our family and community. She was a mother to everyone—raising her own children and so many others through adoption, fostering, and simply opening her heart to anyone in need. She made everyone feel like family, whether you had known her for years or had just met her once.

Her Courageous Battle

• For years, Mama Belle fought an exhausting battle with cervical cancer. She endured surgery after surgery, facing immense pain just to stay with her family, especially my younger brothers. Despite the physical and emotional toll cancer took on her, she never stopped being the rock for our family. She fought for us until the very end.

Now, we are not only grieving her loss but also struggling to give her the farewell she deserves while trying to manage the financial burden she left behind.

The Financial and Emotional Challenges We Face

• In addition to the cost of her funeral, my family is struggling with over $20,000 in unpaid medical bills. Mama Belle had no life insurance, and my father is scraping by on factory work, doing his best to support my four younger brothers who are still living at home. I’ve done everything I can, paying $1,820 for the cremation and $500 for the service, but it’s not enough.

Beyond the funeral expenses

• I’ve been helping my dad cover basic living costs, such as food and bills. Just last year, I spent nearly $15,000 to adopt my baby and moved my entire family across the country from the Midwest to California. The costs of traveling back to handle my mom’s funeral have added another $4,000. I’ve exhausted my savings and resources, and now I’m left with no one to help me carry this financial load.

A Difficult Truth

• Unfortunately, my older siblings have chosen not to contribute during this time, leaving me and my dad to bear the full weight of the financial and emotional responsibilities. This has made an already difficult situation even harder for us, and I’m asking for your help to relieve some of this immense pressure.
