DYC needs a new pool!!!

Please help contribute to the replacement and maintenance of the aging and failing pool facilities at The Delaware Youth Center. The pool and its grounds are in desperate need of a complete overhaul. Currently the pool is only able to be open because it is "grandfathered" under the law, because it is so old that it can't be expected to come up to modern code regulations. It is cracked and leaking beyond repair. The mechanical room is underground and has suffered from numerous floods. The heater is fueled by an outdated and costly propane heating system which is in need of parts that are no longer made. The pool simply needs to be removed, redesigned and rebuilt. And not just the pool, but the bath house will be reconfigured accommodate the needs of all swimmers, lesson participants and staff, which it presently cannot. The new design concept includes a environmentally friendly geothermal heating system, an expanded and user friendly bath house, a handicap accessible pool and a covered area for relaxing.

We feel very strongly that nothing you do for children is ever wasted. Dedicated volunteers hold fundraising events throughout the year and we are dependent on the support of the community for our continued success.

Nestled on the shore of the Delaware River in the rural hamlet of Callicoon, New York, the Delaware Youth Center has been a central part of its surrounding community for over 70 years. And in that time, we’ve had the honor of touching thousands of lives. Whether they learned to swim in our pool, to fly-fish in our creek, had their first dance at our pavilion, or celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in our hall, chances are that if you ask someone in the community what the Delaware Youth Center has done for them, they’ll have a special story to tell.
