CoderDojo Wexford Year Funding

CoderDojo Wexford is a free coding club for children. We need your support so we can continue to teach kids vital coding skills for free. 

You probably already know that we are all volunteers, joining our club is free and there are no membership fees. Because of this, we do not have the financial means that other clubs with paid memberships do. This is mostly fine, due to the fact that we have very generous sponsors.

Would you be surprised if we told you that we still have to pay for the electricity, heating and insurance?

We are very lucky and grateful to our sponsors and supporters who make sure we have everything else we need: Carnsore Broadband - internet access, CBS Primary School - rent free classrooms, Wexford Bus - annual free bus to the Coolest Projects Awards in Dublin, Menapia Properties - donations to our running costs, Blazing logos - T shirts for our club members, bank of Ireland Wexford - pop-up dojos...

CoderDojo is a non profit global movement founded by Bill Liao. It was first started in James Whelton’s school in early 2011 when James received some publicity after hacking the iPod Nano and some younger students expressed an interest in learning how to code. He setup a computer club in his school (PBC Cork) where he started teaching basic HTML and CSS. Later that year he met Bill Liao, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, who was interested in growing the project into something bigger. In June 2011 the first CoderDojo was launched in the National Software Centre in Cork which saw extreme success. The Cork Dojo saw people travelling from Dublin frequently to attend sessions. Owing to this popularity a Dublin Dojo was launched soon after in Google’s Montevetro building. By making the movement open source it has led to hundreds of dedicated champions setting up more Dojos around Ireland and subsequently around the world.

A lot has changed since, but one thing is constant - teaching kids coding skills!
