Don protégé
Cali is my 3 and a 1/2 year old chocolate lab, pitty mix. I adopted her from Caare Rescue, who had brought her to Vancouver from a high kill shelter in California.
She is a sweet, goofy, friendly, high-energy little thing and she is my best bud!
When she was only 2 years old, she tore her ACL in her left leg. Now, a year and a half later, she has blown her right one. Because she has had her first knee treated, it is seen as a prexisiting condition, contributing to the wear of her other leg and insurance will not cover Cali.
The rough part is the timing of all of this: I am going in for ankle surgery as well! I do not have short-term disability coverage from my employer and will have to go on Employment Insurance. I will be earning 50% of my income for the next 8-12 weeks, and having to come up with $3000 for Cali's surgery on my own is proving quite difficult and discouraging. It breaks my heart not to be able to provide the medical care she needs right now.
I would be ever so grateful for any contribution you can make towards Cali's surgery. Seeing her be able to run and play again, sharing her joyful spirit with everyone she meets would mean the world to me - and Cali!
