Bucks for Bentley
Bucks for Bentley is to fund and raise hope for my sweet nephew who will be turning One in February. Bentley was recently diagnosed with a condition that affects various parts of the body. It's classified as an overgrowth syndrome, which has multiple characteristics affecting each individual differently. In some children with beckwith-wiedemann syndrome, specific parts of the body may grow abnormally. This unusual growth pattern is known as hemihyperplasia. Bentley's first series of exams came back without concern. They showed no tumors and no hemihyperplasia this was just in October. They will have to check Bentley for tumors and hemihyperpasia every 3 months as children who are effected by this are at a much higher risks for having both cancerous and benign tumors.
Monday morning January 28th my sister in law took Bentley's mom took him in for his second check up ultrasound and they found a 5cm x 3cm (about a golfball size) tumor on top of he kidney attached to the adrenal gland. They booked him for surgery the very next day . The team of doctors were able to successfully remove the tumor from all of the surrounding tissue savoring the adrenal gland and without having to do a blood transfusion which was expected to take place being that the connective tissue surrounding the tumor was closely attached to the aorta. Bentley is now recovering in the picu and will be in the hospital for the next week and a half or so. They will be testing his bone marrow to make sure the cancer hadn't spread and this will take about three weeks for the results of the bone marrow test. The surgeon who removed Bentley's tumor was fairly confident that it was one isolated area and he would not have to go through chemotherapy but only time will tell. As I said earlier Bentley and all other children who are effected by have an increased risk of developing several types of cancerous and noncancerous tumors, so this will ongoing thing yhat Bentley will be up against. This condition will slow around the age of 8 when the hormones start to kick in. I would like to help Ryan and Chelsies by raising money for Bentley so they are able to focus on helping him heal! thanks for your time, and we are grateful for each and every one of you!
