A little help from my friends

Despite being Cancer free for almost 20 years, I have spent the last 10 fighting to eat and speak. Due to severe Fibrosis from aggressive Radiation Therapy, not only were Cancer cells destroyed, but healthy ones as well.

I have learned to live with a paralyzed toungue and the limited ability to swallow. Every day of my life is a challenge, whether I’m at work, trying to eat, or even putting myself out there for relationships. The past 6 months I have tried to find something to help. After some scans, ultrasounds, swallow studies, there was nothing treatment wise that could help.

I was recommended to try the Cancer Rehabilitation Center in DC to see if they can help. I was given the hope that Botox injections might possibly relieve some of my pain and loosen my muscles enough to notice a difference. Not cure me, but make things more manageable. Well after 6 months and now being 3k in debt, my Dr and I decided that Botox, considering the cost and it’s effect, is not worth trying to continue. I am upset, but it is what it is. Like running a blackjack table, I’ve been dealing with this for a decade (Deck)and come to the realization that it can not be helped.

I have to do my best to enjoy the life I have left and be thankful and grateful to still have one. I get it was my choice to try, but if anyone can help, I’d be grateful and indebted to you. Thanks for listening, thanks for everyone that supports me and roots for me on a daily basis ❤️
