Hi, I’m currently trying to collect some money for my mom, who has to undergo a risky surgical procedure that might save her spine and her whole physical integrity.

She is slowly losing control over her body, as her spinal cord is seriously injured. Her vertebrae are pressing down on one another, and her body is slowly growing paralyzed, day after day.

The surgery was postponed time and time again since last year, when she first got her diagnosis, due mostly to a lack of funds. But the situation has gotten to a point that doesn’t leave her any other option but to go for it, and as soon as possible.

My mom is in a very tricky financial situation. She is retired but earns only enough to pay for her rent and for basic needs such as food. And due to a lot of health related issues in her life and basically being a single mom for many years, she is left with no savings either.

My sister and I are in no capacity to help her, as we are also struggling financially. I’m currently working several jobs and only earning enough to support myself, and my sister has to work for two as her partner is also sick.

My mom is a very proud person, and always feels shame when she asks for help. That’s why I’m the one doing it. I wish we could settle this by ourselves, but we can’t. I’m in desperate need of help. I’m worried sick about the surgery as the success rate is very scary, but seeing her hurt like this is too much. I wish she would just be able to feel at peace in her own body again. She needs this surgery to not end up completely paralyzed in a few years.

The surgery is planned on the 29th of october. The surgeon told her that the deterioration of her spine since last year is very alarming, and that waiting any more could actually cost her recovery.

We are currently working with social actions to see if there is any help to be found there, but for now, we haven’t gotten any answer. If we end up with more money than the surgery ends up costing, the leftover will be used for her next one. After the cervical vertebrea, she is supposed to have her lumbars worked on as well. Her whole spine is basically breaking down.

We owe the surgeon 3700€ for his work, and 1200€ to the anesthetist. That’s why we are asking for 4900€. This doesn’t take into account the hospital fees but that should be covered by the assurance!
