Those that know A & D know that they're warm and loving, happy to welcome both friends and family into their lives and their home.
For myself, having been taken in by them during a time of need, I can attest that they're a fount of love and joy and welcome support. But, they mask and hide their struggles behind laughter and smiles. And lately, there has been more than their fair share.
In 2020 their household has faced medical leave, sump pump failures (twice!), and multiple expensive veterinary interventions for their beloved animals. Any savings for home maintenance has been exhausted by these unexpected expenditures.
It's now been discovered that the downstairs bathroom is leaking not just from the bottom drain, but the upper showerhead as well. And according to the plumbers, to fix either one of those would be so in depth and labour intensive to do properly that they may as well tear the whole thing open and do a full reno.
They could buy time with some silicone application, but that won't fix the problem itself.
And so, I'm starting this fundraiser to help save A & D's sanity, bank accounts, and remind them that all the good they put into the world does not go unnoticed. They are unaware of this attempt to raise funds for them because they would think of it as an imposition to ask for help, but they deserve to have this burden shared amongst the community of friends and family they have cultivated with their kindness.
The plan is for them to use these funds either to rip out the downstairs shower and reno that, or if triage decides the floor is more urgent, help in replacing the carpet with something a bit more waterproof/resistant.
I send this out to friends, family, and strangers alike to ask for help in making this a reality for two of my best friends who've had an incredibly difficult year and are starting to despair beneath the weight of these unpredictable troubles.
