Zachary's Journey

This is our son Zachary. He was diagnosed with Alport’s Syndrome when he was a child. Alport’s Syndrome scars the kidneys and decreases the function gradually. Fortunately, he never had any issues growing up and was able to have a normal and healthy childhood. However, Alport Syndrome can also affect your hearing. And in his teenage years Zach’s hearing started to decrease, and he needed hearing aids. But again, aside from needing hearing aids, he didn’t have any other problems. Until now. Until Covid attacked his kidneys. His life was changed in an instant. Zachary was more susceptible because of his medical condition and when he contracted Covid, he went into complete kidney failure. To be honest, he is lucky to be alive. But his life is now based around dialysis, a special diet and medication. He is not able to work or have much of a social life. Right now, we are just hoping and praying to find a donor so he can have a kidney transplant and begin the process of getting back to living a normal and healthy life again. Our family is helping Zachary as much as we can, but his medical bills, dental bills and necessary protein shakes specifically for dialysis patients are not fully covered. He needs to drink this special protein shake, Nepro, 3x a day and each bottle cost $8.00. That’s almost $700/month just for the protein shake. It’s hard for us, for Zachary especially, to ask for help. And everyone has been asking how they can help. Alleviating some of the financial stress would make a world of difference.
