Aimee Leona Higa Ing was born on March 16, 2018 with a VSD; a common congenital heart defect in which there is a hole in the wall separating the two lower chambers of the heart. Her parents, Carolina and Brandon were informed of the VSD when Caro was still 4 months pregnant. As time progressed, it became  clear that surgery was necessary to close the hole because it was too large to close on its own. Aimee had increased complications and could not gain enough weight to receive surgery in Hawaii. Therefore, the medical decision was to fly her to San Diego where a team of pediatric heart surgeons would perform the surgery. 

Both Brandon and Caro had to take unpaid leave from their jobs to accommodate and care for Aimee while at Rady Children’s Hospital.  The surgery was performed on June 27th and it was successful. Aimee’s parents are very grateful that she is doing well, but is also concerned about the hospital bills and other related expenses. Aimee will need to remain in San Diego for at least 6-8 weeks or more as she recovers. 

Aimee’s family will humbly accept any financial assistance offered, no matter how great or small.
