Hi everyone, my name is Marcus. I live in the United States, and I’m reaching out because my grandmother’s home in Jamaica, the home my grandfather built with his own two hands, was destroyed by Hurricane Melissa.
This isn’t just a house to us.
It’s a piece of our family’s soul.
Between 1986–1987, my grandfather, Keith Bailey, spent 10 months building this home brick by brick. He wasn’t a contractor; he was an Olympic weightlifter and a Justice of the Peace. A man of discipline, integrity, and service. A man who believed that if you want to protect your family, you build that protection yourself.
And he did.
He built a home strong enough to shelter generations.
But none of us expected a storm like Melissa.

What the Hurricane Did
When the hurricane hit, the entire roof was torn off.
My grandmother and my mother were left fully exposed to the sky and rain pouring into the top floor, water leaking downward.
Every day now, they wake up and sweep water out of the house just to stop the bottom floor from flooding.
The damage is overwhelming:
• Roof completely destroyed
• Electrical system ruined
• Plumbing system failing
• Kitchen appliances lost
• Structure weakened
• Living conditions unsafe
My grandmother is one of the strongest women I know, but even the strongest people need support sometimes.

️ A Legacy Worth Protecting
My grandfather passed years ago, but everything about this home reminds us of him.
His strength.
His love.
His belief in family.
His hands on every beam and every brick.
He built this place so his family would always have shelter.
Seeing it in this condition… it hurts in a way I can’t fully describe.
But I also know this:
If he were here today, he wouldn’t hesitate for a second to rebuild not just the structure, but the love and essence that lives inside it.
Now it’s our turn to honor that legacy.

What We’re Trying to Do
We’re raising $10,000 USD to:
• Rebuild the roof and secure the structure
• Repair electrical and plumbing systems
• Replace destroyed kitchen appliances
• Restore safe, livable conditions for my grandmother and mother
Every contribution helps bring this home closer to what it once was: a place of safety, dignity, and family.
Even if someone can’t donate, a simple share goes a long way.
A share puts this story in new hands, new hearts, and new communities.

❤️ From My Family to Yours
If you’ve read this far, thank you. That alone means more than you know.
Your kindness, your shares, your generosity—they help carry a legacy forward.
My grandfather might not be here physically, but through your support, his spirit continues to show up for the family he loved so much.
With gratitude,
Marcus Watts & Family
