Twelve years ago my -then 6 years old - son and I decided to leave our country of origin due to social instability and violence. We came to the United States looking for a peaceful and promising life. We left everything in Colombia and we started to build all over again: new school, new friends, different career, and a new place to call home. It has been a journey of hard work, struggles and efforts that has seen its reward in the love and kindness of many people that we have the joy to call friends and family!

Recently, most exactly two years ago, my son was diagnosed with a mental illness that has consumed our time, our tranquility and our limited financial resources. I'm a single mother and my modest salary is not enough to cover all our basic needs. I have fallen behind bills, including medical bills and my debt is increasing day by day. I work full time and it is difficult to get an extra job since I need to take care of my son by driving him to his different appointments and/or treatments.
