Study Abroad in India, NE Himalayas
Donation protected
On May 7th, 2014, I will be traveling to India for a three week study abroad program through the USF School of Social Work, visiting Delhi, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Agra, India. I look forward to immersing myself in the culture and gaining an entirely new perspective on how I view the world!
We will be starting our trip in New Delhi by meeting with practicioners from social work organizations that help with many social problems within India: gender issues, children's rights, homelessness, etc. This will be an exciting opportunity for me to be able to not only see the problems faced by those on the opposite side of the globe, but also to see how those problems are addressed. We will then travel towards the northeast Himalayas, meeting with both health and social service professionals and community leaders along the way.
Once we make it to Arunachal Pradesh, I will have the opportunity to learn and participate in the Research Institute of the World's Ancient Traditions, Cultures, and Hertiage (RIWATCH), recognized as a Regional Center of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development by the UN (visit www.riwatch.org for more info!). The experience will be more than I can hope for in my work towards becoming a well-rounded and informed social worker.
Following this, we will end our trip at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India--because who can go to India and NOT visit the Taj Mahal?! This trip will provide me with one of the richest experiences so far in my life, and I truly cannot wait!
I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity, but, as can be expected, it is a very costly experience. The program itself costs over $3,500, which doesn't include the airfare or passport, visa, and permit fees. I have picked up extra jobs and applied for scholarships, but those will not begin to cover the bulk of the trip. I am asking any willing friends and/or family for contributions that will go fully towards paying for this incredible experience. Any amount would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! Much love,
Samantha
