Hi my name is Francisco Prado. I am the second kid in my family to go to college. I am a freshman athlete and currently attend Montreat College. I attended my first semester on a full ride scholarship. My school paid for half of my tuition through a soccer scholarship, and One 7 Ministries, a christian organization that builds leaders and spreads the Gospel through soccer, paid for the rest of my tuition. It was a blessing to be given this opportunity; however, One 7 can no longer pay for the other half of my scholarship. Without this money, I am unable to further my education.
My family and I have been living in the U.S for 18 years now. I came here when I was only 2 months old. However, my permanent residency is still in process. Thus, I do not receive in state tuition, and I am not eligible for FAFSA and student loans. The payment for my second semester is already past due. I have a month to pay the rest of my tuition or I will be forced to leave Montreat. My parents work countless hours every day just to help pay for my sister’s tuition at Wingate University. They are not able to pay for two college tuitions at the same time.
I want more than anything to defy the odds and graduate from a four year school as an undocumented student. I want to be successful in life so that I can serve others who are in similar situations. This money will further my education and allow me to live this future I envisioned.
