Aidez-nous à sauver les genoux de Koda

Bonjour, je m'appelle Nathan, et je viens demander de l'aide pour mon chien, Koda.

Ma fiancée et moi avons adopté Koda en 2020, et nous ne pourrions pas être plus heureux de l'avoir dans nos vies. Il a maintenant 5 ans, et ça fait 15 mois qu'il a de gros problèmes aux genoux.

Après 7 chirurgies en un an sur les genoux arrières (pour plus de 17000 € au total), Koda a encore besoin de 3 chirurgies (d'un total de 4710 €) pour pouvoir marcher normalement de nouveau.

Voici l'historique médical complet.

En Avril 2024, nous le trouvons au réveil incapable de se lever, il n'arrive pas à pousser sur ses pattes arrières.

Après plusieurs examens vétérinaires au Centre Hospitalier Vétérinaire de Saint-Martin, le diagnostic tombe : rupture du ligament croisé crânial de chaque genou.

Une TPLO (un refaçonnage du plateau tibial) est donc nécessaire sur chaque genou. Le premier est opéré en Mai 2024, le deuxième fin Juillet 2024.

Nous pensions que ça allait s'arrêter là et que la rééducation suffirait à régler ce problème pour de bon, mais les physiothérapeutes trouvent que le genou droit met trop de temps à se remettre. Des examens en Octobre 2024 montrent que la TPLO s'est compliquée, et que la rotule s'est luxée, ce qui nécessite une opération chez le chien.

Ce n'était que le début, les complications se sont enchaînées :

Entre Mai 2024 et Mars 2025, Koda a donc subit 6 chirurgies (une sur le genou gauche, 5 sur le genou droit).

Il n'a pas eu de chance, les complications se sont enchaînées, et les vétérinaires espèrent qu'on en voit le bout.

Malheureusement, fin Mai 2025, Koda se met de nouveau à boîter. Un examen vétérinaire montre que le deuxième ligament croisé (Ligament Croisé Caudal) dans le genou droit a rompu, ce qui va nécessiter une nouvelle intervention (reconstruction du ligament grâce à la technologie Novetech).

D'abord, il a fallu opérer de nouveau, début Juin 2025, pour retirer tous les implants infectés encore présents, suivi d'un mois complet d'antibiotiques pour retirer définitivement toute trace d'infection.

L'intervention est envisagée à partir de la fin Juillet, si les radios de contrôle (4 semaines après la chirurgie) sont positives.

En attendant, nous essayons de lui mettre une attelle articulée afin de garder le genou stable, mais cette tentative a été infructueuse.

Nous voilà maintenant début Juillet 2025 pour la radio de contrôle, mais les chirurgiens trouvent que Koda marche bizarrement. Les radios montrent que le Ligament Interne Caudal du genou gauche a aussi rompu.

Il va falloir donc retirer l'implant de la TPLO du genou gauche (cette opération a lieu ce 10 juillet), pour ensuite pouvoir faire les reconstructions des ligaments croisés du genou droit dans un premier temps, courant Juillet, puis du genou gauche dans un second temps, en Septembre si tout ce passe bien.

Au total, entre Mai 2024 et Septembre 2025, Koda aura eu 10 interventions chirurgicales, dont 7 sur le même genou.

Sans compter les trois chirurgies à venir, ma fiancée et moi avons dépensés plus de 17000 € pour ses soins.

A ce jour, sa mutuelle a refusé de nous suivre, évoquant la possibilité d'un problème génétique (hypothèse vivement rebutée par les vétérinaires du centre hospitalier)

Quand il en vient aux trois chirurgies à venir, elles vont nous compter un total de 4710 € (550 € pour le retrait de l'implant de TPLO dans le genou gauche, et 2080,58 € par genou pour les reconstruction des ligaments).

Nous avons eu la chance d'avoir de la famille qui nous a avancé une partie (2000 €) des chirurgies précédentes, mais nous avons définitivement atteint le point où, financièrement, nous ne sommes plus capables de suivre. Je suis à peine au dessus du SMIC, tout comme ma fiancée, nous avons serré la ceinture aussi longtemps que l'on a pu pour le bien de notre chien. Mais nous savons aussi que, sans ces chirurgies, Koda ne pourra plus jamais marcher normalement. Elles sont donc nécessaires. A ce jour, Koda peu à peine se lever sans notre aide (les vétérinaires demandent à l'éviter autant que possible), ne peut pas marcher plus de 10 minutes à la fois, et est sous antidouleurs de manière constante. Il n'a que 5 ans.

Les fonds récoltés nous aideront donc à financer les opérations, afin d'aider Koda a retrouver une vie normale.

Hi, my name is Nathan, and I'm here to ask for help for my dog, Koda.

My fiancée and I adopted Koda in 2020, and we couldn't be happier to have him in our lives. He's now 5 years old and has been having serious knee problems for 15 months.

After undergoing seven surgeries in one year on his knees (for a total of over €17,000), Koda still requires three additional surgeries (for a total of €4,710) to regain normal walking ability.

Here's the full medical history.

In April 2024, we woke up to find him unable to stand up, unable to push off his hind legs.

After several veterinary examinations at the Centre Hospitalier Vétérinaire de Saint-Martin, the diagnosis was made: rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament in both knees.

A TPLO (a reshaping of the tibial plateau) was therefore necessary on each knee. The first was operated on in May 2024, the second at the end of July 2024.

We thought it would stop there and that rehabilitation would be enough to solve the problem for good, but the physiotherapists found that the right knee was taking too long to recover. Examinations in October 2024 showed that there were complications with the TPLO surgery, and that the patella had dislocated, which requires surgery on a dog.

This was only the beginning, as one complication followed another:

Between May 2024 and March 2025, Koda underwent 6 surgeries (one on the left knee, 5 on the right).

He's been unlucky, with one complication after another, and the vets hope we'll now see the end of it.

Unfortunately, at the end of May 2025, Koda began to limp again. A veterinary examination showed that the other cruciate ligament (Caudal Cruciate Ligament) in the right knee had ruptured, necessitating a new surgery (reconstruction of the ligament using Novetech technology).

First, we had to operate again at the beginning of June 2025 to remove all remaining infected implants, followed by a full month of antibiotics to permanently remove all traces of infection.

The vets think the surgery could happen from the end of July, if the follow-up X-rays (4 weeks after surgery) are positive.

In the meantime, we're trying to put him in a joint splint to keep the knee stable, but this has proven unsuccessful.

Here we are at the beginning of July 2025 for the follow-up X-ray, but the surgeons find that Koda is walking strangely. The X-rays show that the caudal cruciate ligament in the left knee has also ruptured.

The TPLO implant will therefore have to be removed from the left knee (this surgery takes place on July 10), so that reconstruction of the cruciate ligaments of the right knee can be carried out first, in July, and then of the left knee in September if all goes well.

In total, between May 2024 and September 2025, Koda will have had 10 surgeries, including 7 on the same knee.

Not counting the three upcoming surgeries, my fiancée and I have spent over €17,000 on his care.

To this day, Koda's insurance company has refused to support us, citing the possibility of a genetic problem (a hypothesis strongly rejected by the hospital's vets)

When it comes to the three upcoming surgeries, they will cost us a total of €4,710 (€550 for removal of the TPLO implant in the left knee, and €2,080.58 per knee for ligament reconstruction).

We've been lucky enough to have family who have lent us money (€2,000) for the previous surgeries, but we've reached the point where, financially, we're no longer able to keep up. I'm barely above minimum wage, as is my fiancée, and we've tightened our belts for as long as we can for our dog's sake. But we also know that, without these surgeries, Koda will never walk normally again.

To date, Koda can barely stand up without our help (the vets ask us to avoid this as much as possible), can't walk for more than 10 minutes at a time, and is on constant painkillers. He is only 5 years old.

The funds raised will help us to finance the operations needed to help Koda return to a normal life.
