Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, and now what

One week ago,  Gary suddenly started vomiting blood and immediately went to a doctor's office  where he was diagnosed with pneumonia and the flu. They quickly sent him to the hospital due to the severity of vomiting blood. Within 24 hours of being in the MICU, he was diagnosed with sepsis and in a coma.

After two days, the doctors ran out of resources and couldn't do much else for him, so they said all we could do then was pray. While everyone had been praying, we still thought something else could be done. Thankfully, another nearby hospital sent a special intensive care unit and transferred him safely to their MICU with more specialized doctors and resources.

After 9 days of various antibiotics, platelet transfusions, continuous ventilator support, multiple dialysis treatments, and many tests, the sepsis is still not gone. The doctors think there is some underlying infection or disorder that is keeping his immune system from assisting the treatments in fighting the sepsis. Until they figure out what else is wrong, they have to keep treating him with antibiotics and morphine just to keep him stable.

While we are hopeful the doctors will figure this out and he will fight the sepsis, his limbs are suffering more and more the longer it takes. After only a week, his fingers and toes are black from the lack of circulation.

He is a supportive son, loving husband, and caring father to his two girls. His loving wife has been by his side every day hoping and praying he will be able wake up healthy and see all of his supportive family and friends. Fighting sepsis is the first step in his battle and the road to recovery after that will be extensive and lengthy. We hope to keep everyone updated soon with positive results.
