OSA Literary Arts Writing Retreat

We are the students of the School of Literary Arts at Oakland School for the Arts, an urban public charter school located in the historic Fox Theater in downtown Oakland, CA. We are 14-17 years old, and we write and study poetry, fiction, spoken word, playwriting, non-fiction, and more. We're raising money to cover part of the cost of our first-ever Writing Retreat. 

We spend our school days in a very urban environment, so we're thrilled to be able to spend three days and two nights in the Santa Cruz mountains, at the Sequoia Retreat Center, from April 25th-27th, where we'll deepen our crafts and our already close-knit community. We'll take workshops with our teachers and other experienced writers, we'll explore, we'll hike, we'll share our work, we'll probably roast marshmallows"”but most of all, we'll write write write. We'll also visit UC Santa Cruz, where we'll tour the campus, meet with the Creative Writing Department, and take a writing workshop with Prof. Micah Perks and Prof. Ronaldo V. Wilson. For many of us this will be the first trip to a college campus and/or to the redwood-filled mountains!

Many of our families have paid what they can, but we still need help covering the full cost of the trip, which includes our lodging, meals, and transportation. That's where you come in!
