Swaziland: Population Health Experience
Thank you so much for taking the time to view my page!
This May (8th - 26th) I am going to be partaking in a study abroad opportunity
to Manzini, Swaziland. Swaziland is located in southern Africa and is bordered
on 3 sides by South Africa and the 4th by Mozambique.
For those of you who don't like to read here is the bottom line. The trip will
cost $4,000 which covers: airfare, housing, excursions, breakfast at the hotel.
This does NOT include tuition, for which I am also responsible.**
We will be staying in a hotel Mbabane, which is the capital of Swaziland and
working for 8 days in a general hospital and community clinic, providing direct
care to patients. Not only will I be putting my nursing skills into practice, I
will be immersed in a foreign culture and learning and sharing with both
patients and nurses as well.
During some of our down time we will be taking a trip into South Africa for a
weekend safari; visit a cultural center, native homesteads, a visit to the
Mantenga Waterfall and take a boat cruise on the St. Lucia Estuary to view the
hippopotamuses and crocodiles.
We will also be developing and implementing a service-learning project that
will benefit the local community.
Not only is this a once in a life time educational opportunity, I will also be
gaining first-hand knowledge about medical mission work, and hopefully be able
to decide if this is something I truly wish to do upon graduation (after loans
are repaid).
So, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your
donation. No donation is too small (or
too large ;)). **In the event we do
reach the $4,000 for this trip, anything above that will go towards the rest of
my tuition for the rest of my summer and fall courses (which will be
approximately another $7500).
Thank you for believing in me!
