PROJECT HENRY - From Homeless to Hopeful
We met Henry after attending a concert downtown. He wasn't asking for money or even food, but just minding his own business and living life day by day. We just started talking, mostly pleasantries, and then we learned more about his situation. Henry is homeless. Henry is hungry. Henry is a disabled veteran who desperately seeks to find his way out of this situation. Henry struggles with the basics that most of us take for granted. As a homeless man he can qualify for basic food items (ensure drinks, etc.) but he doesn't have an address to ship them to. As a homeless man he doesn't have the ability to keep things cold in the summer. As a homeless man he doesn't have storage so there are limited options to keep food on hand in any quantity, and even when he does acquire some it is hard to carry and keep it safe. So Henry lives day by day.
We are hoping to fund Henry for his basic needs in the short term (up to a year) while we work with him to find him a sustainable income or appropriate benefits or services he would qualify for. We also hope to find him a longer term option to sustain himself and are working to find the best options we can. We are working with several resources that can help support him but need some time to overcome the hurdles associated with a transition from being homeless to being hopeful.
Help us as we work to support Henry in these 4 things:
Cover basic living expenses for shelter and food: 250/month at Father Dempsey’s House - $3,000 for the year
Cover a bus pass each month: $39/month - $468 for the year
Cover phone service each month: 53/month - $636 for the year
Assist him with getting the necessary support to sustain a living past 1 year; hopefully to find a way to get his VA benefits for disability. We don’t know exactly what we will need or run into to help support this… Stay tuned.
Help us raise at least $4,104 to get Henry off the Street and Fed for the year so we focus our time on helping his build a sustainable future. Give Henry a chance!
100% of the funds transferred will go to providing for Henry directly. We will merely provide service to him, be there for him, and help steward the funds toward his basic needs to ensure they are spent appropriately.
