In September I was robbed at gunpoint at an ATM. One of the three offenders was caught. He was let out on bond but I was not offered any sort of support, protection or assistance. I also was not aware that I had that sort of option. Februrary 8th was the day that I was supposed to testify against the offender. I left my home like normal and as I sat in my car about to leave for court. My name was on some sort of paperwork given to the offender and he used my name to Google my address and find me. A masked man (which later turned out to be the same person I was going to testify against) came out of my own backyard and fired multiple shots into my driver side window. I was able to drive away and call 911 but I was hit multiple times which resulted in stomach damage, a broken rib, diaphragm damage and fluid around my lung. I spent 8 days in the hospital and have no idea when I will be able to go back to work. The city of Detroit has not provided much support at all. I have tried to be positive throughout this whole situation because I know that stress will not assist me on the road to recovery but because of this incident and also not being able to work this has become a terrible financial burden on me and my family. Not only do we have to move out of our home of 23 years but I have also been hit with other financial issues. I'm not one that usually asks for help but I have nowhere else to turn. This would mean so much to me because it will allow me to continue my road to recovery without worrying as much about the financial situation this has put me in. I truly appreciate anyone that took the time to read the story/look at the news article (attached below) and also anyone that has found it in their heart to donate.
