Elle, NAM Maryland Top Model National Finalist
Elle, now a third grader, was selected as a National American Miss Maryland State Finalist earlier this year. The National American Miss pageant program is the largest in the nation, popular because it focuses on developing self-confidence and leadership skills. Elle competed in several categories in this year's state competition, including Interview, Formalwear, Personal Introduction (which is public speaking for her age division) an other optional contests. This was Elle's first pageant, so we were surprised when she won the Spirit Award, and several runner-up awards for the Talent, Acting and Photogenic competitions. But it didn't end there...Elle took 1st Place in the Top Model Search competition! Because she won first place, she has been invited to represent Maryland for the National Top Model Competition in Anaheim, CA November 16-26, 2018!
As a Girl Scout, Elle plans and participates in community service activities often. She will have the opportunity to spotlight one of her service activities at the national competition, and she has decided to start a book and coat drive to benefit local youth organizations. Even though Elle is only 7 years old and will be competing against girls as old as 10, she feels confident that she has a real chance at winning the national title. That confidence is due in no small part to the support she receives from her friends here in Frederick, Ijamsville and Urbana. National American Miss expects its competitors to earn their own entry fees by securing sponsorships themselves, so Elle has made a plan to visit local business to ask for their tax-deductible contribution toward her competition fees. She says she would also like to make homemade sugar scrubs and sell them at local markets and craft fairs (look for the Sandelwood...it is her specialty)!
Elle says that she is so proud to represent Maryland at nationals. If you would like to donate any size new/gently used coat or book(s), leave a message on this page until October 1, 2018 with pick-up location, date and time. If you would like to support Elle, please consider sponsoring her directly through GoFundMe.com or you can purchase ad space in the NAM National Pageant Yearbook (ads cost $75-750). Good luck Elle!
