Gabriel’s Cancer Battle

Hi, my name is Charlotte and I’m fundraising for my son Gabriel. He was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer in November. Gabriel is 3 and he is the most enthusiast farm kid you’ll ever meet, sorting sheep with his puppy and always outside on the farm or in the fields.

He had been unwell for a few weeks and I had been to the GP a few times, as his condition worsened we took him to A and E to be told a few hours later his cancer diagnosis. He was then admitted to the Paediatric Oncology ward and started his treatment within hours. In a moment our lives changed forever. He will receive treatment for more than 2 years.

My husband Oliver and I have 4 young children, their ages are 9,6,3 (Gabriel) and 1. We are tenant farmers running an organic farm, we are a husband and wife team on the farm although Gabriel’s diagnosis has meant that I have become Gabriel’s full time carer and no longer can work on the farm. It has also meant that Gabriel, the biggest farm enthusiast you’ll ever meet can no longer do the things he loved on the farm due to the risk of infection (spores and bacteria) while he is receiving life saving treatment.

Gabriel now spends most of his time in hospital as well as receiving treatment from home from community nurses, a very different life he is used to. My husband Oliver continues to run the farm as well as looking after our other children when I am in hospital with Gabriel.

I am fundraising to pay for additional help on the farm in my absent while I am Gabriel’s carer. His treatment will continue for more than 2 years and during this time he will be immunosuppressant, so will not be able to go on the farm as he used to and I will not be able to work on the farm as I used to. For us to keep our home for our children and pay bills to continue running our small business which includes paying rent as tenant farmers and everything else, we need to find additional help on the farm.

It is utterly heartbreaking for him as well as our young family and cancer really does rip lives apart although we are staying strong and fighting this together as a family!
