I WANT TO LIVE
We are raising funds for Aviel Beckman. Aviel is a 7 year old boy who was diagnosed 4 years ago with Fanconi anemia
and aplastic anemia. Fanconi anemia is a genetic disorder which is associated
with chromosome fragility and leads to aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic
syndrome or acute leukemia. Patients with Fanconi anemia eventually develop a
syndrome of aplastic anemia or bone marrow failure syndrome, which leads to a
decrease in blood counts (white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets).
Patients with Fanconi anemia and aplastic anemia are at risk for infections and
bleeding and eventually need periodic red cell and platelet transfusion. Aviel's
blood counts have
decreased and he is now close to transfusion dependence.
The only curative treatment of the blood
disorder in patients with Fanconi anemia and aplastic anemia is an allogeneic
stem cell transplant. However, allogeneic stem cell transplants for
patients with Fanconi anemia are very difficult because of high risks of
complications. Very few centers in the world have enough expertise in such
transplants. Aviel will be arriving in New York November 18th with his parents to Sloan Memorial Kettering Center for a stem cell
transplantation. Both parents don't work since they are in and out of hospitals and have 3 more kids at home ages 1,4,6 which will be staying behind in Israel with their grandmother. The Beckman family needs our help with accommodations while in New York and the 3 kids staying behind in Israel. The procedure is a 6 month difficult process.
The Beckman family have deep trust and faith in GOD, and good will in people.Thank you for considering taking part in this kind act.
